How MLO Started

From the start, we have definitely had our fair share of inspiration. From our school's local math center to the Boy Scouts of America, Our mission has been forged in the path of others.

It all started in the Webster Schroeder Math Lab where I got my first taste of tutoring. I was hoping to start tutoring students on my own soon and recognized I lacked the experience to do so. So during a study hall I ventured to the Math Lab and asked if I could help volunteer and tutor. From that point on my journey of learning began. I was able to get up close to those that struggled and I got a better understanding of their concerns. Additionally, I was able to see who didn’t take advantage of such resources. Many people I knew saw it as too much an inconvenience so it got me to consider their alternatives. In the end I decided it would be a great help to make an online version and from there our journey began. We soon were questioning whether we even restrict an online service to just our district. From there our mission continued to transform before we settled on where we are now.

But we didn’t want our mission to stop there. It felt like a disservice to those willing to help. Through my journey to Eagle Scout, I have benefited greatly from scouting, being put in places of leadership and responsibility, and it has greatly prepared me for life. Being able to recognize such benefits encouraged another shift. One away from getting the best of the best to serve our mission, and further towards doing everything possible to raise up anyone interested in helping. And that has brought us to not only seek out the best of the best, but to also encourage those who are new to tutoring to learn with us, grow with us, and go on to do amazing things.

But these are our inspirations, our motivations, and as we continue operations we are heavily invested in both of these pillars we have established for ourselves.
